Unoriginal

One of the greatest things about the spy vs spy comics was always the original creative ways they would kill each other. This was far from creative, sorry. In the actual comic, a knife would have come out of the eyepiece, killing the spy... Or maybe his eye would be glued to the eyepiece, and then the telescope would blast off into the sky and explode... Or... You get the idea. The graphics were all right, but not great. The animation was okay, once again, not great.

And although Fred Astaire did sing the original version of Puttin on the Ritz, he did not sing this version. This version was recorded in the 80's by a band called Taco. Do some research before crediting the wrong people. (This happened with that "Fuck" flash too - now all these random people think it was by Monty Python, simply because that's how it was credited, probably because it was downloaded and had that in the filename.)

Jszostak responds:

i had no take on any of the ideas, all the episodes are based on ACUAL COMICS, ive said the numerous times and no one seems to get it. fine it was by taco

Compress your sound, that'd be good.

Because, you know, I've got a slowish connection - when I load something that's over a meg, I expect quite a bit of stuff. Well, maybe not quite a bit, but more than this.

The ending came as no shock, either.

There's also clearly some anti-Canadian sentiment going on here. Was it the CANADIANS who were responsible for the Gummi Bears show going off the air? Hmmm.

DjMitri responds:

ok, first of all... i'm not alowed to wear a Molson Canadian hat? is it against some kind of NG law that Canadians are not allowed to show any kind of patriotism? I wear that hat okay man, the charecter is me... therefore i had to have my hat! got a prob with that?

Not original, I'm afraid

I've seen the same gag done before - a few times. Sorry.

ZekeySpaceyLizard responds:

Dang. I thought I'd made something original. Back to the drawing borard.

I'm usually the first one to go...

...Oh, god... Not another stick figure movie. But that's because they usually suck.

This doesn't suck. This is far from suckage. About as far as you can get. Get your mic fixed, and it would have been a ten across the board. This freakin' rocked. I'mmah go watch more of your stuff. Because... Man. Rock. This did.

ZT responds:

Woot! Warning: My other stuff isn't as good.

This is my best entrance by far, anyhoo I'm glad you like it,
thanks for the review.

Cooooool!

But you've got to draw some invisible boxes over your button text - it's too hard to hit the buttons. It looks good tho, overall. No real suggestions other than that.

ColinMatthews responds:

Oh, okay, if that little thing will b e an improvment, so it shall be.

Nice! Now keep on adding to it!

I think you're doing a great job, I'd love to see this turned into a full-fledged music video for that song!

WADEMACHINE responds:

i will do that thanks again for the review

Well, given that the title is Violin Torture...

I knew what to expect, more or less - Wow. If I ever need the sound of an awful, screeching violin for a flash movie, I know where to go (with your permission, of course, and with the proper credit where credit is due). Graphically, you didn't really do any work, you just imported a movie into flash, so I had to rate you low there. Sound was good, as far as it being a horrible, screechy violin. Reminds me of the days I was trying to learn violin.... Ugh.

FourStar responds:

if you ever do need this for your flash movie i also have it in the audio portal

Cute!

Very nice. I wanna see more like it! Mmmm.... Broccoli....

Dawkus responds:

Thanks! Never fear, as I'm working on the next episode!

You have taken on too much.

It's clear that you're not a very experienced flash designer yet, and I think you took on too much with this. You clearly want it to be an epic thing, but the poor quality of the graphics, the poorly written script, the poorly edited sounds -all of these detract from what appears to be at least an interesting concept. I think you should have spent more time honing your skills on shorts before jumping into something like this. Know your limitations.

Also, the "smiley-face" shape to the "spark" in his eye was just way too cheesy.

Ofir responds:

Thanks for the review! Next time I'll do better

It's like Pirates of the Caribbean, only boringer!

I remember last year or so, when I was hanging out on some discussion board, and someone registered as "Waterman" and posted, asking everyone on the board to come check out the "next homestar runner," Waterman. We went and looked, and came across a website with navigation that looked remarkably similar to (read "not quite directly ripped off from, but almost) hsr.com, only not programmed as well. There was only one toon on the site then, and I watched it. The characters were reasonably well designed, but the jokes were mostly stolen from other sources, the animation was a bit crappy, the movie wasn't optimized well, so it didn't play on my computer well, and the sound was kind of crappy.

Frankly, I forgot all about it, until I saw this on the NG front page. I thought "Hey, you know, that WAS the first cartoon - it's probably gotten lots better."

The animation is slightly improved, but the general artwork has actually gone downhill. Many of the jokes are still stolen from other places, (scooby doo is one flagrant example), and the original jokes are (for the most part) not that funny. The quality of the voice recording is still poor - Get some decent microphones, guys.

I'm sorry to say things have not improved much. I did like the (spoiler alert) Optimus Prime figurehead, and I did laugh when the trash-can-robot-guy wrecked the truck.

Sorry, not impressed.

Waterman responds:

A 32 year old man huh? I think it's about to time to move out of your mom's basement and get a job dude.

-Waterman

P.S.- Throwing in some education in to you life equation wouldn't hurt either... "Boringer" isn't a word.

I always watch cartoons fully before reviewing them, and I try to respond to as many reviews as possible.
