Sheep Rampage

"Cute and fun!"

submission: Sheep Rampage
date: June 7, 2004

I love it! I would suggest that the farther away sheeps should be quieter when you nab them. Some bonus items to nab would be cool too, and maybe as you go up in levels, every once in awhile, something else - a wolf, or maybe a dog - would wander into the field, and you would want to try to avoid lassoing it, maybe it would run away with a couple of the sheep you already lassoed or something.

But even as it is, it's a very fun, cute game.

Frog it 2

"Nicely done! Does need sound, tho."

submission: Frog it 2
date: June 7, 2004

A nice effort, I'm looking forward to seeing it with sound! Also, for some reason, I found it a little hard to control. I think I wanted to steer the frog (turn left, turn right) not tell it which way to go (go west, go north). I'm sure I could get used to it, though. Anyway, keep improving it! Add sound!

Time Travel Adventure

"It kind of sucked"

date: June 7, 2004

Sorry, I can see you put some work into it - but the whole thing was (a) boring to watch, (b) not terribly funny, and (c) boring. Did I say that twice? Sorry, it was just REALLY boring. One thing I would like to suggest is that if you're going to have different music for different scenes, please make sure you mix the music better.. "...Singing, Come out--" and suddenly, it's a different song. Then the same thing happened again. "In my dreams I'm dying all the time. Then I awake, it's kaleidoscop--" very irritating.

Also, yes - I found it just plain weird that it had your face in it through the whole thing.

Nursery Rhymes: the truth

"It starts out not too bad..."

date: June 3, 2004

It starts out fairly well - I actually expected it to be about the true origins of nursery rhymes, and so I was pleasantly suprised to see a complete spoof. The sound is good, and you seem to be decent at singing nursery rhymes, and the animation was decent... But I got bored around the middle of it, and found it to get more boring as time went on.

Not terrible, though, a good effort.

Plug-a-butt

"Looked pretty good at first"

submission: Plug-a-butt
date: June 3, 2004

It looked pretty good at first, but I kept waiting for the big joke at the end. You know, the one that never came. very anti-climactic. It's not bad, though - keep trying.

"Waterman" Ep. V

"It's like Pirates of the Caribbean, only boringer!"

submission: "Waterman" Ep. V
date: June 3, 2004

I remember last year or so, when I was hanging out on some discussion board, and someone registered as "Waterman" and posted, asking everyone on the board to come check out the "next homestar runner," Waterman. We went and looked, and came across a website with navigation that looked remarkably similar to (read "not quite directly ripped off from, but almost) hsr.com, only not programmed as well. There was only one toon on the site then, and I watched it. The characters were reasonably well designed, but the jokes were mostly stolen from other sources, the animation was a bit crappy, the movie wasn't optimized well, so it didn't play on my computer well, and the sound was kind of crappy.

Frankly, I forgot all about it, until I saw this on the NG front page. I thought "Hey, you know, that WAS the first cartoon - it's probably gotten lots better."

The animation is slightly improved, but the general artwork has actually gone downhill. Many of the jokes are still stolen from other places, (scooby doo is one flagrant example), and the original jokes are (for the most part) not that funny. The quality of the voice recording is still poor - Get some decent microphones, guys.

I'm sorry to say things have not improved much. I did like the (spoiler alert) Optimus Prime figurehead, and I did laugh when the trash-can-robot-guy wrecked the truck.

Sorry, not impressed.

Author's Response:

A 32 year old man huh? I think it's about to time to move out of your mom's basement and get a job dude.

-Waterman

P.S.- Throwing in some education in to you life equation wouldn't hurt either... "Boringer" isn't a word.

OLD* Red Arrow War 1

"Oh, look. More stick figures with guns."

date: May 30, 2004

I'm tired of these things, to be honest. Stick figures battling one another, stick figures going through mazes full of traps, stick figures doing various violent things.

Yes, they're nice and easy to do, as far as not having to worry about making unique looking characters, you don't have to animate mouths moving, etcetera.

But vagueness can be a liability, especially here - we have four stick figures that are obviously part of a team, and one of them is the leader, and one appears to be the hero, and the other two are just guys. Who's who? Impossible to tell, until they talk - and then it's merely only difficult.

Graphics are unoriginal, being that they look pretty much like every other cartoon of this type. Sound needs work - for example, the sniper's gun was quiet, despite the fact that we were viewing it from the sniper's point of view. Style? I had to give you a zero on that, it's all been done before, over and over again. The violence was reasonably well played out, but once again - not original.

Lab Rat

"Not a bad try, but unoriginal"

submission: Lab Rat
date: May 29, 2004

There are too many of these types of toons out there (the "stick figure in some sort of maze of death" type toons), so unfortunately, I can't rate you much on originality. I chuckled once or twice, but for the most part... Not too entertaining, sorry. Certainly not worth blamming, though, it's not bad for a first submission.

The "step" sound is really irritating, just because it's really loud and repetitive. A very soft thud or click would be more appropriate, and even better, have several different sounds to alternate.

The big spike ball thing was really predictable - I would have loved it if the guy had dodged it somehow.

Author's Response:

Yeah, I was going to make another one, but since my style has improved, more flying/running/teleporting is now my style, walking is annoying i agree with you there.
